Morning Meeting
Today Javier Parellada was the facilitator, as usual we started with the announcements of the day: circle up at 8:00a.m. sharp, TED on wednesday and Pablito read us a letter because he'll miss some of his individual work time on other commitments. Later on Javier started his activity, which was to share 3 different videos that had something in common: Remember Remember the 5th of November. The first one was: Meaning Behind the Nursery Rhyme, V for Vendetta: Remember Remember and Anonymous. There were all related, the main relation was "Remember Remember the 5th of November", I was very curious for all that happened on that date and Javier explained us. I thought that the three of them where about rebelling against the government or a specific system that violated their rights. It's very interesting and quite scary.
New Cycle
Today our official new cycle started, so we gathered with our groups of 3 and started planning a schedule for the next six weeks. Bert sent us the books we were going to read and how the days are scheduled for the upcoming weeks, our task was to organize how many chapters per week of each book we were going to read. My group and I divided the chapters per day and counted the pages to have a right amount to read. Afterwards, we all circled up to discuss the ideas we've came up with our groups. Marce, Diego and Lore had the exact idea as we did. They projected their schedule and we all agreed to stick to that schedule. Later every pioneer developed their own schedule for this new cycle including the pending work each one had.
Presentation
On Thursday 8th, 2012 we have to give a presentation to the members of Escuela de Negocios. So we gathered to divide the topics in the 6 groups we are, we brainstormed a lot. And so, every group had a topic to develop for thursday. My group's theme was an Introduction: What is MPC? Each group is responsible of doing the power point slides and then we'll group them all in one presentation. I'm going to edit a video asking every pioneer: What is MPC? and my idea is to play it at the start or at end of the presentation. I'm excited for this presentation, I know we'll do a great job :)!!
Plato: Five Dialogues: Euthyphro
We started reading Plato: Five Dialogues, today we started with Euthyphro and it was a really good dialogue between Socrates and Euthyphro. I've never read Plato before so I was kind of lost at the beginning because it was hard to really understand perfectly. However, I did understand...it's just that sometimes I'm really perfectionist and I want to grasp everything and if not I re-read it. The whole dialogue began when Socrates and Euthyphro found each other at the court, so they asked each other what they were doing there. The main point of the dialogue was to answer "What is piety?", and I was impressed that Socrates was a great inquirer. He asked and asked, and still he never got satisfied with the answer he got. I was wondering that it would have been very interesting to question about everything, I would've enjoyed a dialogue with Socrates. Or with any greek really, they all seemed so curious and genuine. It was a very interesting dialogue and I'll read it again.
Performing Arts
Singing time!! Bert is very enthusiastic about forming an A Capella chorus and I am too! So, today we circled up and started knowing in what category our voice belongs. It was about imitating some notes, Alejo was the one in the piano and Mabe was the one who classified the voices: soprano, alto, tenor or baritone. It was really interesting to hear different tones of voices, it really is outstanding how many different voices exist all around the world. I believe we all can sing, it's just a skill we need to develop. I was catalogued as a soprano, I really look forward to sing. It's really amazing to express ourselves through our voice and create music with it.
Evaluation: Socratic Dialogue
We read a paper today to evaluate our skills on socratic dialogue, it was more like a self-evaluation. However, we read it all together to understand each of the different skills that a great model of socratic dialogue has. I found out that I need to develop more some skills, actually every skill!! I want to be better everyday, I really enjoyed and got inspired from reading this. I'll read it from time to time to see on what state I am: 10 points, 5 points or 1 point because sometimes I can weaken one skill, so I really need to be aware of all of them.
Programming
We had a whole different experience at programming today because we were divided in our groups and we created our own schedule. In my group we organized our schedule from basics to complex, which means we first have to start with Khan Academy and Codecademy, and then with basic problems and Project Euler problems. Afterwards my group and I were super excited to start and we fell in love with Khan Academy!! We couldn't stop solving math problems, it's really addictive! Now I understand the people that love math :)
Debriefing
Today's debriefing was great :) We laughed a lot and we talked about the experience of singing, some of the students can't sing so we were joking about that. Bert acknowledged us for really being on task and doing everything we had committed during the morning. It was a very good day, I learned a lot and I feel we are really getting into the program now. Of course, I know we have to read a lot but it all comes down to organization. Afterwards Ines, who didn't show up last week, told us that she had a letter for us. We all knew she was giving up MPC, she read us the letter and I perceived a lot of honesty in her voice. She told us that her true passion was psychology and that she was returning to it, which means she will be no longer at MPC. I think that maybe she didn't experience enough time at MPC because we are barely there, I mean what MPC really is but I'm happy that she's happy with her decision. She's always invited to have conversations with us. And we wrapped up the day...today was really meaningful to me because I feel that we are getting there...our culture and everything is evolving exponentially and I'm really happy for that.
